And the Soul Felt its Worth

I was listening to a Christmas CD recently, singing along and enjoying one of those Christmassy moments. You know, one of those moments when the Christmas tree is decorated and presents wrapped in colorful, shiny paper are tucked under its fragrant branches. Creating that wonderful Christmas atmosphere that only happens once a year. O Holy Night came on and I began to sing along in my enthusiastic but out-of-tune fashion when one phrase seemed to jump out at me.  It was like God highlighted the phrase in red, underscored it, and then put it in bold lettering.  The phrase is “Till He appeared and the Soul felt its worth.”  He appeared and the Soul felt its worth.  The Soul felt its worth when Christ appeared.

There is little I can write that would add meaning to this deeply beautiful and life altering phrase; it says it all.  When Christ is in our life, our soul knows its worth and finds its purpose.  God’s unconditional love and forgiveness sets our soul free to find its destiny through and with him.

I pray that this holiday season and in the coming New Year your soul will feel its worth.  I pray that your knowledge and understand of God’s love will grow deeper and that you will see clearly your value is in Christ, not in how other people see you.  They can’t see your heart but God can; they can’t see the reason for your struggles, God can; they may not see your spiritual growth, but God does.

May your soul know its worth this Christmas season and in the coming New Year.

O Holy Night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Savior’s birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining.
Till He appeared and the Soul felt its worth.

A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
O night divine, the night when Christ was born;
O night, O Holy Night, O night divine!
O night, O Holy Night, O night divine!
